Nwosu, right, abducted by police inside the church
The son-in-law of former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha and former APC candidate for Governor of Imo State, Mr. Uche Nwosu has been abducted , according to reports.
“Nwosu was taken from St. Peters Nkwerre Anglican Church by fully armed gunmen and put in a car stand,” according to a report by CKN News.
“They chased him away in the midst of a serious shootout in video obtained by CKN News,” the report said.
“No one has so far claimed responsibility for the abduction,” the report added.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Chapter of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria on Sunday, December 26, 2021, gave the Imo State Government a 72-hour ultimatum to release Mr. Uche Nwosu , chairman of the Ugwumba Center for Leadership Development in Africa, who also doubles as National Patron of the Assembly, from his captors.
The youth body demanded the immediate and unconditional release of their national boss, threatening that failure to do so would lead to state shutdown amid massive protests by young people across Nigeria.
Nwosu was abducted by gunmen from St. Peters Nkwerre Anglican Church in Imo State where he attended a Thanksgiving service in commemoration of his late mother, Jemimah Nwosu, who was laid to rest last week Wednesday.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Nwosu was abducted by security men attached to the government house.
A testimony from a witness Abazu Ebuka, while confirming the incident, said: “I have just finished taking Holy Communion, I returned to my seat to pray, as I raise my head, armed men , masked, in military uniform, inside the church, before you know it they cocked the gun, worshipers fled, gunfire everywhere.
“Ugwumba Uche Nwosu was dragged to a car,
I almost got shot for trying to record a video.
“I was pretty sure they were kidnappers or terrorists because of their style, and I didn’t think the police would disrupt a church service like this.”
Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Michael Abattam while confirming that Nwosu was in custody in a press release titled “Chief Uche Nwosu Arrested,” said “This is to inform the general public that Chief Uche Nwosu was not kidnapped but was arrested by the police and Imo State Police Command is aware of the arrest and he is currently in custody on sight.
This is to refute previous news that made the rounds on social media that he was kidnapped by strangers/gunmen.
“The Commissioner of Police, while using this medium to assure the Imolites of the Command’s commitment to ensuring safe lives and prosperity this Christmas season, advised the general public to always avoid fake news.”
