Unknown gunmen shot and killed a realtor while he was worshiping in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Kwara Police Command said the murder victim was an Ilorin-based estate agent, Sina Babarinde.
A command spokesman, Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said the deceased was allegedly shot dead by unknown gunmen during a church service at RCCG Living Word Parish, Basin Road, Ilorin.
According to him, the incident happened during the RCCG’s 7:00 a.m. church service.
“The late Sina Babarinde was called on the phone, and as he came out of the church to receive the call, the sound of gunfire ripped through the air, which caught the attention of the congregation,” police said. “By the time the congregation came out of the church to see what was going on, it was discovered that the estate agent was already in a pool of his own blood. It was discovered that he had been shot in the head .
The spokesperson said Police Commissioner Tuesday Assayomo led a quiet investigation into the murder.
He added that the casings of the bullet used to kill the deceased had been recovered.
“The corpse has been deposited at the Ilorin University Hospital (UITH) morgue for autopsy. People should have no fear as police and other security agencies work to sort out the situation surrounding the incident,” the statement added. “This is about arresting the perpetrators and ensuring that the safety of the lives and property of our people is well protected.”
The police also announced that its officers had been deployed to strategic locations in the metropolis, including places of worship, to prevent a new incident from happening again.
