Tallahassee unit holds first church service since fire

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A place that has always been a welcoming sanctuary for anyone seeking peace, now nothing more than debris from a fire earlier this week.

Unity of Tallahassee Church held a healing service on Sunday for its congregation, the first service since a fire destroyed the church on Tuesday.

Pastor Bill Williams said the focus today is on healing and moving forward, moving forward doesn’t just include rebuilding.

It also includes staying on track with previous missionary work plans. The church says it helps families every Christmas who have immediate needs to meet – something that will continue this year as well, something it says could take a long time.

“We got over being together in this place,” Williams said. “With the building burned down, but what we’ve gained hasn’t been touched, we can use that moving forward.”

Moving forward does not just mean rebuilding.

It also includes staying on track with previous missionary work plans,” said church member Linda Roberts. “The church says it helps families every Christmas who have immediate needs to meet, which which will also continue this year.”

The church says it plans to hold outdoor worship services until it can repair the building.
