Nairobi Police are looking for a man who allegedly stole 1.5 million shillings belonging to All Saints Mountain View Church, Kangemi.

The incident happened on Sunday October 9 after the day’s service.

According to a report filed at the Kangemi police station, the funds were to be used to expand the church.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which has since looked into the matter, said church elder John Wainaina and treasurer Elizabeth Njoki discovered the funds were missing on Monday, October 10.

“They (Wainaina and Njoki) had gone to collect the money, only to find the till doors open, which was unusual,” the DCI said on Twitter.

“A closer examination of the Lord’s table, where the bread and wine are consecrated, indicated that it had been ransacked. The drawers, where the money had been kept, had also been broken into and the funds stolen,” the DCI added.

The two senior church members subsequently filed a report at Kangemi Police Station.

Authorities have determined that the church’s surveillance cameras were disconnected after the church’s power supply was cut.

Church members suspect the worship center caretaker, who has since disappeared, was behind the theft.
