Knife-wielding man interrupts church service and is arrested

A knife-wielding man was arrested after entering a church in the Northwest Valley and breaking up a Sunday morning service, Las Vegas police said.

Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Brian Boxler said no one was injured and detectives were investigating the incident.

Police were called around 11:40 a.m. to Liberty Baptist Church in the 6500 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard near North Rainbow Boulevard, Boxler said.

By the time officers arrived, the man was already outside, having been escorted out by church members, Boxler said.

A preliminary investigation determined that the man had been “upset” by a member of the church leadership, Boxler said.

Records show Jonathan Stetor, 37, was incarcerated at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of drawing a dangerous weapon in a threatening manner.

He was due to appear in court on Monday morning.

Church officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Additional details were not immediately available.
